Dog Tales Sanctuary Is Like Heaven On Earth, For Dogs And People

Forget Disney World — Dog Tales Sanctuary and Rescue might just be therealhappiest place on earth!

Just outside the bustling city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, husband and wife team Rob Scheinberg and Danielle Eden have built a spectacular and lavish “home away from home” for rescue dogs.

Situated on 50 acres of sprawling farmland in King City, Ontario, Dog Tales Sanctuary and Rescue is not your typical shelter.

The pair had worked with and volunteered for rescue groups in Canada and Israel for many years before the idea for Dog Tales came about. Scheinberg and Eden are relatively well-to-do, and as pet parents to a pack of rescue pooches, they wanted to spend their money building something they were passionate about.

The pair has spent the past six months overseeing the construction of Dog Tales, and has been involved in even the smallest of details, like the decoration of the dog kennels. Eden has outfitted them with antiques, custom-made sofas and doggy divans; not your average kennels. Some may scoff at this kind of extravagance, but given the rough start many rescue pooches get in life, she feels the home-like vibe at Dog Tales will help prepare the dogs for family life in a forever home. She also wants the sanctuary to be a place where they can feel safe and have fun.

“I don’t know if they care about it, but that’s what I was trying to do,” says Eden. “I’ve always loved animals — always. More than normal people, I think.”

Right now, Dog Tales is home to more than a dozen dogs and four horses, but that’s just the beginning. They have room for as many as 87 dogs and stables for up to 40 horses.

The sanctuary is funded by private donations, as well as Scheinberg and Eden themselves. While he won’t provide specifics, Scheinberg will say they’ve invested “north of a million” dollars in the project so far.

We here at PetGuide think the work this couple is doing at Dog Tales is nothing short of amazing. To those who might say the two are crazy to invest so much money in a rescue project, Scheinberg simply says, “Crazy is good sometimes, if you do it for a great cause.” We couldn’t agree more!

Dog Tales will become fully operational next month and will be taken care of by 10 full-time staff members and countless volunteers. Adoption days will be held every Sunday for those looking to add a sweet pooch to their family.

Even if you’re not quite ready to adopt, Scheinberg and Eden encourage members of the public to visit the sanctuary and play with the animals. Given that spending time with dogs has been shown to reduce stress and loneliness, you could say that Dog Tales is a sanctuary for people, too. It’s like a dog park for rescues – and you have free reign to play with them.

If you already have dogs of your own, you’ll be able to bring them to the sanctuary to run in its rambling fields and play with the other pooches. It’s about 30 minutes from here, and we can’t wait to visit!

Sounds like heaven on earth, for both dogs and humans alike.
