Who said that eco-friendly furniture can’t be fashionable at the same time? Check out what eco-chic really means.

If you’re particular about your interior decor and a pet parent at the same time, you know things can get ruff. More often than not, the design of pet furniture and accessories makes it stand out like a sore thumb in a modern apartment or a stylish home. Luckily, more and more companies and designers are realizing this- subtle color palettes and sleek lines are seen more often in the pet products aisle. But, although this pet bed fits the bill when it comes to its stylish and minimalistic design, it’s not what makes it stand out. GEMMA bed is a comfy, chic bed for pets that’s made entirely out of discarded plastic bottles.

Yes, that’s right. Not only you can boast about having a pretty lounge spot for your precious pooch, but you can be certain that your pet’s new bed didn’t harm the environment. In fact, not only that it’s eco-friendly, but the choice of materials it actually helped alleviate the problem of plastic pollution. For each bed, the company uses 75 to 150 plastic bottles, ground to fine flakes and spun into a soft, durable yarn.

Of course, the eco-friendliness factor is not the only reason why GEMMA is so pawesome. The cleverly chosen grey color of the fabric makes pet hair less visible, and if once your little mess monster gets it dirty, you won’t have an issue cleaning it. This bed is fully machine washable, inside and out. To boot, the soft filling is hypoallergenic, so you won’t have to worry about those nasty dust mites and dander giving you sneeze attacks. GEMMA comes in two sizes, S/M and L/XL, and it’s available via Indiegogo- with pricing starting at $59. Oh, and if saving the planet from plastic pollution didn’t make you enthusiastic enough about this bed, you should know that a percentage of all profits will be donated to organizations including Best Friends Animal Society, the nation’s largest no-kill pet sanctuary. Talk about a bed that keeps on giving!
