Pet Insurance: Why I Think It’s Worth It, No Matter The Cost

Pet insurance costs may be rising, but people are still buying!

As I settled in to write this article, my dog Maria, settled in with me. She reached her head under my hand for a quick scratch and then took her spot as my foot warmer. I live alone and Maria is more than just my dog; she’s my protector, my therapy, my coworkers, my best friend, my everything. No matter how stressed out I am because of work, she’s home waiting for me. And she’s insured because I will never let my financial standing take away my soul-dog.

One financial concern that plagues pet parents is pet insurance and if it’s worth the cost. Over the past year insurance prices have increased, according to Petinsurancequotes.com. But the increase of this insurance is not so much due to inflation as it is to the advances in medical technology for dogs. Dogs have pawed their way into our homes and into our hearts. They no longer live in the backyard, and people are willing to do much more to keep them happy and healthy. Advances include x-ray machines, new tests, and some veterinary hospitals even have MRI technology.

In the past year, costs have risen 10 percent, with the average full coverage plan going from $29.42 a month to $32.47 a month. Pet insurance varies from plan to plan, but there is a plan for every dog. Most plans do not cover hereditary conditions, but they are there for emergency services and ongoing treatments.

The increase in price has not stopped people from purchasing pet insurance. In fact, the number of people buying pet insurance has also increased, and at a much higher rate. “Last year we generated about 150 quotes per day. This year we’re generating over 1,000 quotes per day,” said Nick Braun, founder of Petinsurancequotes.com. “Clearly the interest in pet insurance has outweighed any price increases.”
