I am loving all these new, high-tech pet-centric gadgets that are hitting the market. I told you about the CleverPet Wi-Fi-Connected Dog Game Console. Now, I’m excited to hear about the PetPace, a new smart wireless collar that monitors your pet’s health, vital signs, activity and wellbeing all day, every day.

This pet collar does so much more than just hold tags. Made for both dogs and cats, the PetPace will monitors their health and sends out alerts via an app to owners and vets when there’s something you should look into. This can help you prevent and detect diseases and get a handle on behavioral issues before they turn into big problems. “This collar will enable pets, for the first time, to ‘tell’ us how they feel,” says says Dr. Asaf Dagan, chief veterinary scientist at PetPace.

How is this possible? This super smart collar incorporates miniature sensors that noninvasively and automatically monitor vital signs (temperature, pulse and respiration), activity patterns, positions, calories, pain, heart rate variability and other physiologic and behavior parameters. It also collects data to compare how active your pet is compared to other breeds.

The PetPace collar is $150, along with a $15 monthly service fee. It is available in Massachusetts and Florida, and will be available around the rest of the country this summer. Watch the video below to learn more about the product and how it works.
