Making sure your dogs and cats are well-fed and hydrated during the summer months when food habits may change is just as important as it is in humans. July is National Pet Hydration Awareness Month. To help pet parents keep their furry family members healthy, PetSafe is introducing four upgraded fountains and feeders.

Because PetSafe’s number one focus is on…well, keeping pets safe and happy, they’ve declared July as National Pet Hydration Awareness Month. They’re working hard to help spread awareness of your pet’s water and food in-take. They chose to start in July because that’s typically the hottest month of the year in the United States.

You may know that humans are made up in large part of water, but did you know that your pet’s body is made up of an even higher percentage of water? That’s right…80% of your pet’s body is water, whereas a human’s portion is much less at 50-60%. That means that during these hot summer months especially, it’s essential to hydrate your pets as much (if not more than) as you do yourself.

Pets need about an ounce of water per pound of their body weight, and most pets don’t typically get enough water during the day. Pet parents often will fill a water bowl at breakfast and dinner for their pet, or if they see the bowl is empty, but that’s probably not enough for your pet. Just like humans, they need to keep hydrated throughout the day for their optimal health.

PetSafe recognizes that for pet parents, it’s a change of habit and thought process. They know that it can be hard when pet parents have lives that lead them to be late with meals or forget to check the water bowl during the day.

Sarah Beene is PetSafe’s water and feed solutions category manager and is excited to offer pet parents solutions and tips with their Pet Hydration Month awareness campaign. PetSafe is introducing a fully upgraded line of its Drinkwell® Pet Fountains, including the PetSafe® Drinkwell® 2 Gallon Pet Fountain, PetSafe® Drinkwell® 1 Gallon Pet Fountain and PetSafe® Drinkwell® ½ Gallon Pet Fountain. There are three sizes from which pet parents can choose based on how many pets are in the household and their pet’s size. With these fountains, your pet will have a plentiful supply of fresh, filtered, free-falling water at their ready.

PetSafe will also be working to bring awareness about in August as they focus on helping pet parents with nutrition and maintaining healthy weights with portion control options. The new PetSafe® Smart Feed Automatic Pet Feeder will work with your smartphone and Smart Feed app to make sure your pet gets the right portion of food every meal.

If you have an Amazon Alexa device, you’ll be able to use voice control to dispense food using just your voice. The app will tell you when food is running low, and let you even reorder food automatically through the Amazon Dash Replenishment program. This means your pet will always have the perfectly portioned meal at the simple sound of your voice. With the app, you can also schedule feedings–perfect for being out at mealtime but not wanting Fido to miss a meal! More, you can make sure your pet stays a healthy weight, which leads to better health overall.

And that’s what every pet parent wants–our pets happy and healthy for as long as we can have them that way!
