The stars will be coming out for the 2014 American Hero Dog on September 27 at a red carpet event in Beverly Hills

The fourth annual American Humane Association Hero Dog Awards are coming up in just a few short weeks, and the list of stars that will appear at this posh event has just been revealed. Football start Terry Bradshaw is co-hosting with animal lover and actress Bethany Stern (wife of Howard Stern) on September 27 at the Beverly Hilton. Pop group Wilson Philips will be the evening’s musical entertainment. It will then be broadcast October 30 on the Hallmark Channel. But let’s not forget real stars of the show: the eight fearless Fidos that will be contending for the title of 2014 American Hero Dog.

The categories for the awards are: Emerging Hero Dog; Guide Dog; Hearing Dog; Law Enforcement/Arson Dog; Military Dog; Search and Rescue Dog; Service Dog; and Therapy Dog. The finalist from each category will be at the Gala at the Beverly Hilton. The winner will be selected by the public and a set of celebrity judges including True Blood’s Kristin Bauer van Straten, supermodel Joanna Krupa and NASCAR racer Blake Koch.

“We have such an incredible roster of talent set to appear at the 2014 American Humane Association Hero Dog Awards,” says Dr.Robin Ganzert, American Humane Association’s president and CEO. “But of course, the brightest shining stars in attendance that evening will be our eight amazing Hero Dogs and their courageous handlers. It’s going to be an incredible evening, and I can’t wait to see who America has chosen as its 2014 American Hero Dog.”

This year there will also be awards for the people in the first-ever American Humane Association Veterinarian and Hero Veterinary Technician Awards. Zoetis, a global animal health company, is presenting these awards after finding the top veterinary professionals in the nation.

The hero dogs have impacted lives all over the nation and the awards raise that awareness. Elle the Pitbull was last year’s winner, and she has changed the lives of children and adults alike. She and her handler visit schools to help children learn to read, nursing homes to offer companionship, teach dog safety, and have even visited police departments to boost officer morale. Elle has also helped people learn that Pitbulls are sweet dogs who have been unfairly judged. This is more than a red carpet gala; it’s an event to remind people that dogs really are man’s best friend.
